Lord Vighneswara, the God of knowledge and wisdom

According to The Hindu Mythology, the elephant-headed Ganesha

and his brother Kartikeya, the God of war, were once locked in a dispute.  To put an end to the dispute they sought the help of their parents, Lord Shiva the goddess of Parvati.  The two sons were asked by Lord Shiva to compete in the race of three laps around the universe. Kartikeya  got onto the peacock and disappeared. On the other hand, Lord Ganesha did not a hasty decision. He went around Shiva and Parvati thrice and finally bowed in front of Them and said, Dear parents, You resemble the universe. As such, my race has been completed successfully. This myth elevates not only the intelligence and wisdom but also his love and devotion towards his parents.

The worship of  Lord Ganesha precedes all important occasions – both festivals and occasions like marriage, laying the foundation stone for building house or a commercial building,Gruha Pravesham, starting a business or an enterprise, Aksharabhyasam  or any other auspicious occasion. The people  take their newly bought vehicles to the temple of Lord Ganesha and perform the worship so that The Lord of obstacles, might bless the devotee and help him go ahead with a safe journey with the vehicle.
